(Excerpt):

I: Could you describe your first impressions of Canada at the time?

AL: I felt very, very lonely, like I was homeless, lonely. Like I don’t have anyone. I thought to myself: “God why did faith take me this far away from my family that I feel this lonely,” because I did not have anyone. But once I met the Luhowy family, then they accepted me into their family as one of their own, and that’s when I started to feel like myself again. But you know, we were young, we would go out, to zabavas [parties]; we attempted to become accustomed to the [new] life.
